Position: STRUCTURAL WELDER
Job Summary:
Responsible for various types of welding preparation, welding and weld finishing operations, cutting and gouging operations required to perform construction activities and fabrication in accordance with design drawings, specifications and supervisory instructions.
Essential Duties:
• Follow Daily Procedures and Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings and Safety Handbooks. Properly follow OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Superintendent or Safety Facilitator.
• Proficient in assigned welding techniques, interpretation of design drawings, including welding requirement symbology, knowledge of wire and filler material applications for steel alloys
• Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.), and examines weld for bead size and other specifications
• Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage and welding techniques.
• May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positions and may assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation
• Bolts, clamps and welds together metal components of products such as plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment. May weld in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions. May tack weld assemblies together.
• Connects cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisor.
• May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder or chemical bath. May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper. May preheat work piece, using had torch or heating furnace. May cut metal plates or structural shapes.
• Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment
• Full-time position, benefits, hourly pay
Qualifications:
• Must have valid TWIC card.
• Must meet qualifications for DISA program.
• Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction work.
• Successful completion of welding test (must be certified based on Continental’s weld procedures).
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
• Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Able to travel and work overtime (may include nights and weekends).
• Must be at least 18 years of age, pass drug screen and background check.
